How Does a Call to eBay Work?
Anytime you search eBay through their website (including API and RSS Feed) your local PC makes a call to your ISP to search eBay. The call asks for specific information regarding listings via their keywords and other search parameters such as price, category and item specifics.
Your local connection’s request is then resolved by eBay and pings one of their many databases for a newly listed item. If new listings are found, the response returns data on these new items.
Pretty self-explanatory! But what’s not explained is that eBay has dozens of remote server locations across the globe. So when a seller list it takes some time for the listings to propagate (server replication) across all of their data centers.
This can take anywhere from seconds to hours!
Why Are Some Items Sold Before You Even See the Listing?
It could depend on the search method or program your using. Though, realistically this happens because of the random server assignment that your call has been routed through by eBay and the listing server simply hasn’t been updated yet with the item you’re looking.
It’s worth mentioning that eBay doesn’t have an open dialog about what server a listing will be sent to.
This all depends on internal loads, security and what in reality is probably something only a few key employees at eBay understand.
Therefore the infrequency that you’ll always hit a server that has all submitting listings fully replicated can at times seem like someone else has a super software program.
This typically is not the case, unless they’re using uBuyFirst!
How uBuyFirst Finds Listings First
uBuyFirst calls out for new listings more often than it’s competitors. Others allow updating every hour, minute or based on the number of listings being returned.
Our software utilizes BOTH your local PC’s resources and internet connection and our own cloud searching software to call out much more frequently.
We use all of the available known search methods that eBay provides and our own proprietary methods.
Add all this up and the likelihood of returning results before others increases significantly!
How Can We Do This?
eBay gives it’s developers a certain number of API calls allowed per day and take into consideration the revenue generated per amount of API calls.
Many others offer free tools (or even paid) that are made for the masses.
That includes the curious, the occasional, the part time and the full time buyer.
API calls from the curious could consume just as much as the full time power buyer yet they set a threshold of API calls static across all users.
uBuyFirst utilizes a subscription fee service to weed out the non-serious buyers, allowing more API calls for those who need them …AND BUY!
Constant Testing and Updating
uBuyFirst believes in staying up to date on the latest technology.
We’re always checking our existing search methods and potential new methods as eBay’s own marketplace continues to evolve.
Let us lose sleep over finding the fastest search method (we enjoy doing so) while you focus on winning more items!
